AIR NEW ZEALAND LINK/MOUNT COOK


The Mount Cook Company started in the early 1900s and its first aircraft purchased in 1920 were ex-World War 1 aircraft followed by Auster, Cessna 185 and Pilatus Porter. Mount Cook Airlines followed starting with the DC-3 then the Hawker Siddeley 748. In 1991 the airline became a wholly owned subsidiary of Air New Zealand and the Hawker Siddeley was replaced by the ATR 72s. In 2002 services to Mt Cook were taken off the schedule, for the first time breaking the airline's connection with its Birthplace. After 10 years ZK-MCX landed at Mount Cook Airfield using a ATR. - March 2013

Both engines failed to respond to an autothrottle demand for a power increase as the aircraft passed through 700ft on its final approach. Investigators have ruled out fuel exhaustion, fuel contamination, physical obstruction in the fuel supply lines or filters, or fuel pump failure. Meridian Airways is a Ghanaian registered cargo airline based in Ostend-Brugge Airport, Belgium. They started operations as Air Charter Express in 2007 with a Douglas DC-8-63/AF. Operating two DC-8s on cargo charter flights from Ostend Airport to the Middle East. The airline also operates charter flights for the British Ministry of Defence from RAF Lyneham. In December 2005 the ninth Airbus joined the Qantas fleet. Registration VH-QPI and named Cairns.
The name Cairns first entered the airlines fleet in 1986 on a Boeing 767. The city of Cairns has played an intergral part in the Qantas history - first operated services were in 1942 with Shorts C Class flying boats en-route to Papua New Guinea.


VH-QPA "Kununurra", was the first A330-300, delivered in November 2003. The aircraft had a sudden and uncommanded change of altitude over Western Australia on the 7th October 2008.The ATSB found that a computer fault caused the aircraft to descend rapidly, returned to service on the 30th November 2008, repainted in the new Qantas colours on the 2nd August 2014 - Taken at Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney in August 2009 (N5226)

On the 7th March 2006 the first of 12 aircraft emerged from the final assembly jig at Jean-Luc Lagadere facility in Toulouse. Manufactures serial number - MSN014.
MSN014 recorded its maiden flight at Toulouse on the 25th January 2008. French test registration was F-WWSK.
MSN014 will be delivered to Qantas later this year as VH-OQA. "Nancy Bird-Walton". The Qantas A380 fleet will be fitted with Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines.

Qantas took delivery of its first of 20 A380's at a ceremony at Airbus' Toulouse factory on September 21st 2008. The plane then flew to Sydney via Singapore, arriving on Sunday Morning, September 19th 2008. The first commercial passenger flight was on the 20th October 2008 from Melbourne to Los Angeles. The first flight from Sydney was on the 24th October with a flight to Los Angeles.

VH-EAG "City of Hobart" entered service in 1968, in 1974 it was renamed "City of Alice Springs", acquired by the RAAF in 1979 and registered A20-627 "Windsor Town" it was originally used for VIP transport and was later converted to become an aerial refuelling tanker. the aircraft last flew in 2001 and was held at Richmond for use as spare parts, it was scrapped in 2009 with only the nose section retained.The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) acquired the forward fuselage section and it was transported from RAAF Richmond to Albion Park in July 2015. HARS plan to restore the forward section of the boeing as a civilian airliner externally painting one side with Qantas markings and the other side with RAAF markings. The aircraft was the last 707 in the Qantas service, the first 707 in RAAF service, the 707th 707 built and the record holder for the most passengers carried by a 707 when helping evacuate people from Darwin after the devasting Cyclone Tracy in 1974.,

VH-OJK "City of Newcastle", serial number 25067, delivered on the 21st June 1991,had a serious accident on the 25th July 2008 involving an exploding oxygen bottle. It appeared that the aircraft's number 4 oxygen cyclinder failed, rupturing the aircraft's fuselage and propelling the cyclinder up through the cabin floor before impacting the R2 door handle, resulting in the cyclinder valve breaking off. The cyclinder then continued travelling upward, impacting the overhead storage bin above the R2 door, before falling back through the hole in the cabin floor and out of the aircraft through the hole in the fuselage.
